You'd be forgiven for thinking there was a war on...

 

Since the invasions of Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003, 43 Scottish servicemen have lost their lives.

 

In that same period (from 7th Oct 2001 to 31st Oct 2010) 5624 men in Scotland have committed suicide.

 

...or Boys in Trouble?

In terms of mental health & emotional well-being, boys and men in Scotland are in crisis:

  • 90% of school children with behavioural problems are boys
  • 80% of school children with learning difficulties are boys
  • 81% of all pupils excluded from schools are boys
  • 90% of court appearances are made by males aged 16 to 24
  • More than 90% of all violent crime is committed by men
  • 95% of all prison inmates are male
  • 1000 men die each year from alcohol related causes
  • 84% of suicide victims aged 16-24 are male
  • Scotland has one of the highest male suicide rates in Western Europe.
